Overview
The goal of the Shadow Program is to expose individuals to career opportunities in the legal field and to the skills and qualifications necessary for appointment. Program participants have an opportunity to observe court proceedings, and to shadow or to interview professionals in the Judiciary who are working in their area of interest.

Available Departments in the Judiciary
- Access to Justice Office - Sample responsibilities include enhancing access to justice for underserved communities in Rhode Island.
- Clerk’s Office - Sample responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, and providing legal assistance on cases within the State of Rhode Island.
- Community Outreach - Sample responsibilities include developing and implementing outreach programs to connect the Judiciary with local community organizations. This includes writing press releases, newsletters, and responding to data requests.
- Diversity Office - Sample responsibilities include promoting diversity and inclusion initiatives within the Judiciary to ensure a fair and equitable workforce.
- Employee Relations - Sample responsibilities include handling employee relations matters and supporting a positive work culture within the Judiciary.
- Facilities and Operations - Sample responsibilities include facilities management, coordinating operational activities, and ensuring the smooth functioning of court facilities.
- Finance and Budget - Sample responsibilities include managing budgetary matters, financial planning, and overseeing fiscal resources.
- Interpreter Services - Sample responsibilities include coordinating language interpretation services to ensure effective communication in court proceedings.
- Technology - Sample responsibilities include managing and implementing technology solutions, ensuring efficient case management, and courtroom technical operations.
Judicial Opportunities

Eligibility and Program Details
- The Shadow Program is available to high school and college students and recent graduates only.
- This program is intended to be a one-time shadow session.
- The program is not an internship or experiential opportunity.
- Background checks may be required for some shadow sessions.
- The Application form and paperwork must be completed prior to beginning the Shadow Program.
